Laparoscopic Surgical Instruments
During a four year stint at CMR Surgical, I worked with the mechanical design team on the instrument range. I delivered changes to the full set of instruments, most notably the monopolar hook, for which I was the technical lead. I worked with supply chain, clinical experts, reprocessing teams and department heads to overcome challenges that impacted the companies profitability.
Robotic Taylor Spatial Frame
As part of a group design project in my fourth year of University, I worked with a team of five engineers to produce a proof of concept for a robotic fracture fixation device based on the Taylor spatial frame. I lead the architectural design, as well as designing and programming a custom circuit board to control the six brushless DC motors.
Fracture Monitoring Sensor
I worked with another mechanical engineer to produce a sensor for monitoring tibia fracture healing. By reviewing research literature we came up with a low cost proof of concept sensor that detected vibrations transmitted across the fracture site with a MEMs device. Data was acquired in a bench-top test for comparison with a more expensive accelerometer.
